An Offensive Tackle For Every Round

Reid Fragel in the third round? If the Lions want him, that’s where they need to pick him.

Continuing in the series after we have already covered pass rushers and cornerbacks, today we give you an offensive tackle for the Lions at every pick. The Lions certainly should have interest in tackling their tackle issue with the retirement of Jeff Backus and the free agent departure of Gosder Cherilus. Last year’s first rounder, Riley Reiff, will start at one of the vacant spots. Oft-injured Jason Fox and underrated Corey Hilliard will be in the mix at the other spot. The team clearly likes both of them, which makes the drafting of an offensive tackle likely to fall into one of two categories: instant top notch starter or long-term developmental project.

Rushing to get these notes typed before my plane takes off, so I apologize in advance for the more sparse details than normal.

Howard LB Keith Pough is very hard to miss with his half-shirt and nonstop yapping. It’s also hard to ignore his very strong play this week, and today was his best so far. In a blitz drill he went right over SMU RB Zach Line, and in another rep he used a real quick shoulder fake that got him a clean pass. He exudes fast-twitch musculature. His constant jabbering, which is almost universally well-received, echoes of Sean Weatherspoon at the Senior Bowl a few years back. Pough is not as sturdily built but has a similar game and mentality.
