Hours before the 4 p.m. deadline on March 2nd, the Detroit Lions announced they are not going to use the franchise tag designation on star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Doing so would have locked up Suh for one year at an eye-popping $26.8M, with the exact same process setting up for next year.

General Manager Martin Mayhew opted to stop the madness. Prudence trumped desperation. (more…)

I’m in Indy for the weekend, hanging primarily in the lobby of the JW Marriott, which is the home base hotel for the 2015 NFL Combine. Here are a few things I’ve been able to gather about the Detroit Lions in my first 24 hours here. (more…)

Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor

Training camp started with a decidedly negative tone, as Lions Team President Tom Lewand told the gathered media that the team was suspending contract negotiations with Ndamukong Suh until after the season.

This bombshell dominated coverage on the first day of camp. While the timing is a bit of a surprise, the suspension of talks is not. And that speaks a whole lot more about Ndamukong Suh than it does the Detroit Lions. (more…)
