My week in Mobile gave me a much better feeling for how NFL teams are viewing many prospects and what teams are looking for come April. The result is a pretty significant upheaval, though Lions fans will note some familiar names.

Please note that this is a projection of what I think teams might do in the given situation. I would not necessarily make the same choices in the given situations.

1. Kansas City Chiefs
Tyler Wilson, QB Arkansas–While Wilson didn’t necessarily “wow” the NFL crowd in Mobile, he’s clearly the best talent and most ready to lead a pro offense right away. Teams like that he handled a trainwreck situation with aplomb, an important attribute when going #1 overall.

It was a warm and interesting week in St. Pete watching the Shrine Game practice sessions and meeting some of the players and agents in the hotel. While I was there for a more general overview, some players stood out as being a potentially good fit for the Lions. The Shrine Game generally features players taken in the final three rounds and priority free agents, though a handful of players could go as high as the late second round.

Rushing to get these notes typed before my plane takes off, so I apologize in advance for the more sparse details than normal.

Howard LB Keith Pough is very hard to miss with his half-shirt and nonstop yapping. It’s also hard to ignore his very strong play this week, and today was his best so far. In a blitz drill he went right over SMU RB Zach Line, and in another rep he used a real quick shoulder fake that got him a clean pass. He exudes fast-twitch musculature. His constant jabbering, which is almost universally well-received, echoes of Sean Weatherspoon at the Senior Bowl a few years back. Pough is not as sturdily built but has a similar game and mentality.

Yesterday was DB and OL/DL heavy, so today I took a closer look at the offensive skill position players.
