Lions vs. Ravens: Six Hidden Matchups

Will Jonte Green keep his head in his first extended action of 2013? And thank goodness that SIlva guy is gone!

I set up several under the radar matchups last week against the Eagles and while I missed the biggest one (Everyone vs. the Weather), I totally nailed Gunther Cunningham’s adjustments, the Secondary embarrassing themselves, and Matthew Stafford’s mistakes.  Hooray for me!

Unfortunately, those are things I had rather hoped the team would come out on the winning side on, and instead we ended up witnessing a team not only fail at pretty much everything for 30 minutes straight, but do so in pretty epic fashion.  With a Bears and Packers victory, the path to the Playoffs for the Lions isn’t as clear and they come into Monday Night Football without any kind of cushion and three must wins ahead of them.  (more…)

Six Hidden Matchups for the Lions vs. the Buccaneers

Despite suffering an embarrassing loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Lions are still sitting atop the NFC North and in fact are still clinging to the 3rd seed in the NFC.  This week’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is important not only because the Lions need to bounce back and show they can win, but because it is an NFC opponent meaning the playoff implications are much bigger.

There are plenty of upfront matchups to look at, most notably the league’s best receiver going against its best cornerback, so there’s no need for me to hash those out here.  Another thing I’ll mention and then move on is how the Lions have to handle this game mentally, I don’t think we need to go into detail about how damaging a loss at this point in the season at home to a conference opponent can be.  So skipping over the obvious, we’ll jump right the under the radar match ups in this week’s make or break game! Lions vs. Bears Part Deux: Six Hidden Matchups

It’s edging closer to two weeks since Matthew Stafford’s franchise defining fake spike TD against the Cowboys to win in regulation, but the team still seems to be riding high.  Facing the easiest schedule in the league (If you haven’t heard it 7,000 times by now), and with the Bears and Packers both tied…but very dinged up…the Lions are facing their best chance to win the NFCN since the last time they won it.  *Note:  They’ve never won the NFCN, so I meant in ever* (more…)

I watched the game just once so far, in real time from the comfort of my living room. During the game I posted a live blog over at Bleacher Report, which you can find here.

Here are 10 fairly random thoughts before I call it a night: (more…)

Why the Lions are not Drafting Dee Milliner

This is the time of year where far too many people fall victim to the phenomenon of groupthink. A spurious idea about a team or a draft prospect catches fire and burns up mock drafts, internet message boards, and Twitter. Often it begins innocuously enough, with a simple projection by a popular pundit positing a player to a team because the need seems to fit the talent. Somehow this gets construed as some sort of Old Testament commandment from the NFL Draft Gods, of which Mike Mayock from the NFL Network is the reigning Zeus.
