Rodgers-vs.-Suh

Kent Lee Platte

The NFCN is wrapped up in a four way 1-1 tie and due to the divisional matchup between the Lions and Packers, which will soon change.  The Green Bay Packers are coming off a close victory over the Jets after being blown out by the Seahawks, while the Detroit Lions are coming off back to back blowouts (They blew out the Giants and were then blown out by the Panthers in Carolina).  Aaron Rodgers has a commanding record against the Lions, but the Lions are easily the better team on paper this season.  There are plenty of strong matchups in what is likely to be a high scoring game, but here are some of the more under the radar battles in the first NFCN matchup for the Lions. Lions Cook the Packers

Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor

Never in my tryptophan-induced dreams did I envision the complete devastation of the Packers on Thanksgiving. Detroit walloped the NFC North rivals 40-10 to take control of the division.

Here are my leftovers from a second helping that I watched on Black Friday morning instead of shopping. You can check out my initial takeaways over at Bleacher Report here. (more…)

Lions vs. Packers Part II–Six Hidden Matchups

Thursday, November 28th, 2013

Kent Lee Platte, DLD Writer

The Lions face a bigger test this week than they’ve had all season.  Coming off two losses that should have been wins, they face a divisional foe on prime time TV in front of a national audience.  They do that against a team they’ve normally lost against on a day they have normally lost.  Despite that, they come into the game pretty heavy favorites to win, largely due to Aaron Rodgers’ continued absence.  Also absent, anything resembling a defense for Green Bay.  The Lions refuse to be outdone, however, and have countered with no pass defense of their own!  Green Bay will likely have to rely on their passing game, which works in their favor considering how bad the Lions have been defending it, since the Lions run defense has allowed a league low 2.4 YPC since week 4.  There are many more match ups on your Turkey Day game that aren’t as glaring, and that’s what we’re here for! Know Your Enemy: A Packers’ View of the Detroit/Green Bay Game

In order to help bring some outside perspective on the battle with Green Bay, I called upon Cody Bauer. He is a Packers fan who has contributed to several NFL sites, including RealGM (where I also write) and NFL’s Future. In addition, Cody spent a week with me in Mobile for the Senior Bowl last January and we spent hours talking football. He will contribute some draft content here later this winter as well. You can follow Cody on Twitter @CBauerNFLDraft.  (more…)

The path to the NFL is different for every player. Not every player has the easy road that Matt Barkley, the #1 QB prospect coming out of high school, who went directly to USC and then directly to the Philadelphia Eagles, had. Much more common is the path of a player like Charles Johnson (or CJ as he likes to be called), who has taken quite the winding road in his journey to an NFL roster. (more…)
