Dee Milliner tortured the Wolverines, but don’t expect him in Detroit (photo courtesy Toledo Blade)
Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor
This is the time of year where far too many people fall victim to the phenomenon of groupthink. A spurious idea about a team or a draft prospect catches fire and burns up mock drafts, internet message boards, and Twitter. Often it begins innocuously enough, with a simple projection by a popular pundit positing a player to a team because the need seems to fit the talent. Somehow this gets construed as some sort of Old Testament commandment from the NFL Draft Gods, of which Mike Mayock from the NFL Network is the reigning Zeus.

Matt Barkley is a strong buy recommendation
Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor
If you haven’t signed up yet for our draft network contest, I strongly encourage you to do so. There is still time and you could win some cool stuff.
With three days of free agency in the books, the draft picture might be a little clearer. Some teams at the top of the first round have made moves that appear to eliminate some candidates, while others have made moves that more clearly signify draft intent.

Lions fans would learn to love Tank Carradine in the 2nd round
Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor
Because free agency still hasn’t happened I need to preface this mock with a few presumptions that I used as a baseline:
–Kansas City trades for Alex Smith and lets Branden Albert walk (late edit-the Chiefs traded for Smith as this was heading to press)
–Oakland restructures Carson Palmer and keeps him
–Kevin Kolb restructures his deal and stays in Arizona
–Detroit signs Reggie Bush and keeps Cliff Avril
–Baltimore loses Ed Reed and Paul Kruger to New England and Cleveland, respectively
–Miami signs Greg Jennings, St. Louis signs Mike Wallace, and Dwayne Bowe stays in KC

DJ Swearinger can be an imposing figure at safety
Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor
I know it will be hard for Lions fans to look past Dee Milliner’s 40-yard dash time, but there were some other DBs that performed in Indy who will merit attention from the Lions at various points in the draft. I’ll have a breakdown of the most viable candidates for the #5 tomorrow, and that list is a lot smaller than it was a week ago and it includes Mr. Milliner. He is the only DB on that list.
This summary omits a few players that will go before the Lions pick in the 2nd round(Jamar Taylor, Kenny Vaccaro, Xavier Rhodes, Desmond Trufant) and Tyrann Mathieu, who I am reliably told is not on the Lions draft board.

The game was ugly, but A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend Katherine Webb is not.
Jeff Risdon, DLD Editor
If you watched the game, you know it was painfully one-sided. I watched it twice tonight thanks to the wonder of DVR and using commercial breaks and halftime to review prior drives. I used the above picture to help cleanse my eyes from the massacre. Here are my notes on the final college game of the 2012 season.
