Under the Magnifying Glass – 2014 Scouting Combine

The yearly fun that is arguing over the importance of the combine will soon begin if it has not already.  Analysts, draftniks, and even teams will debate the importance of 40 times, bench press reps, and the like.  The great thing about the combine is that it puts all prospects on a level playing field in the same uncomfortable environment.

Even so, there are handfuls of prospects whose raw numbers at the combine mean little.  That could be due to position or simply due to the already evident skillset they possess.  For other prospects, the spotlight will shine bright when they toe the lines.  A strong showing in events is a must.  These are the guys who fit that mold, by position. Five Potential Lions to Watch in College Week 10

Writing this while watching a game featuring two wide receivers who would look mighty fine in the Honolulu Blue, Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks and USC’s Marqise Lee. Cooks is a potential second round pick, though at this point I would suspect he will be gone before the Lions come onto the clock there. Lee looks well recovered from his earlier knee injury, and he’s a first round talent without question. (more…)

Week 5 brings the first battle of Big Ten heavyweights in Wisconsin and Ohio State, both of whom have rosters loaded with NFL talent.  The Buckeyes squeaked by the Badgers in Madison last season, topping them in overtime.  Both are looking to put themselves in the driver’s seat of the Leaders division with an important win on Saturday night.
