You Think You Can Be Martin Mayhew?

Here at DetroitLionsDraft we have partnered with the fine folks runningPlayTheDraft.com to provide you with an entertaining way to prove your draft mettle.

Play The Draft® is a stock market value game featuring NFL draft prospects. Just like with the NYSE, the goal is to parlay your base investment into the highest possible return by figuring out which players are undervalued and which ones are overvalued. If that sounds complicated, it’s really not. Each player is assigned a value based on ratings submissions from notable, vetted draft professionals, who submit updated mocks weekly. I happen to be one of the contributors, and I will update mine every Monday. You start with 12,000 virtual dollars to spend, and the player values go up and down based on the dynamic pricing model.

Here’s a simple example: Right now Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher costs 3,161, which is up a little over 8% from yesterday’s cost. If he goes #1 overall–and he might–his final value would be 4,000 and you would make money. But if he somehow falls to 8th his final value would be less than 3,161 and you would lose money.

Essentially, you are trying to find players that will go higher than what they are projected. You can go big with a few top players or pepper your portfolio with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round players that are at bargain prices and will increase in value so you can sell them to earn more to spend. Or you can do a little of both. Just like in the real NFL, there are different ways to build a winner.

For details on how to enter our own NEPD Network Play the Draft league, check out the announcement on the page of our sister site. The prizes include a trio of very good football books or a year subscription to the premium section of Pro Football Focus, which is an invaluable tool for hardcore fans. Personally I would love it if someone repping the Detroit Lions wound up winning the league!

I’ll write a weekly piece on players I think are overvalued and undervalued to try and help you win. It really is a fun and fairly addicting experience and I hope you check it out!
